When the FIA published the list of World Endurance Championship entrants for 2025, it confirmed what they had been saying for some time: the Lamborghini team and its SC63 hypercars were not on it. Moreover, there are no sports cars from this Italian brand in the LMGT3 class.
It turns out that the history of the Lamborghini team’s participation in the WEC ended ingloriously after only one season, but this does not mean that the SC63 hypercars, which were driven especially last year by Daniil Kvyat (in the WEC) and Roman Grosjean (in the American IMSA series) we have not encountered on the highways anymore. One such car will continue to compete in IMSA next season.
According to Lamborghini’s official statement, participation in the WEC is “no longer consistent with the company’s strategy.”
“It is an honor for the Lamborghini Squadra Corse team to compete at the highest level and remains our plan for the years to come,” the statement said. – The change in the WEC sporting regulations, which require the company to field two Hypercar cars from 2025, also changes the circumstances under which Lamborghini participates in the WEC this year, which no longer corresponds to the company’s strategy.
After weighing all possible options, Lamborghini opted to skip the 2025 season, but the company continues to modernize the SC63 car and remains in the US IMSA Championship.
The pause in our WEC program will also allow Lamborghini Squadra Corse to focus all its efforts on the development of the new Temerario GT3 sports car, which will be officially presented in 2025 after completion of the test program…”
Lamborghini has not yet announced the composition of its crew in the IMSA series.
It is also worth adding that despite the departure of the Italian team from the WEC, it cannot be said that the ranks of World Cup participants will be greatly thinned: in February 2025, two Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR-LMH hypercars debuting on the podium in Qatar.
