While the cold weather associated with the November weekend in Las Vegas, where all sessions take place almost overnight, is great for Mercedes cars, the same cannot be said for McLaren. That is why Lando Norris only showed a sixth result in qualifying, and Oscar Piastri an eighth.
Lando Norris (6th): “We probably couldn’t reach the first three or four positions. Mercedes is clearly the fastest this weekend, that is clear. Ferrari is not much behind them, but Red Bull and we are quite behind and that was confirmed today.
Although we naturally assumed that we could perform slightly better. And we would have succeeded if I could have done a good lap, but we had problems in literally every corner, and difficulties of various kinds.
Something could work on one lap, but not on the next, and this all turned out to be too difficult a task for our car. When you’re trying to complete a lap as quickly as possible without going over the limit, it’s never easy to balance on that edge.
Of course I will try to do everything I can during the race, that’s what I’m here for. I’m not going to give up until the end, even if the chances remain minimal. After all, my job is to show the best possible results in every race, and this does not depend on whether I claim the title or not.
In general, I plan to give it my all tomorrow. It’s a long race, a lot can happen and our car is fast on the straights – let’s hope this gives us an advantage.”
