Yuki Tsunoda: We didn’t expect to reach the finals

Yuki Tsunoda reached the qualifying final in Las Vegas with the seventh fastest time. The RB driver said that he did not expect to get such a high place at the start. His partner Liam Lawson showed the fifteenth result and explained this by the fact that the car was constantly sliding.

Yuki Tsunoda (7th): “I’m very happy with today’s performance. We didn’t expect to reach the final before qualifying, but we have made progress since the start of the weekend. Thanks to the entire team for their efforts.

We were able to figure out the updates and once we found a direction for further movement, we started improving from session to session. Our main rivals have also done well, so the race will not be easy, but anything can happen, especially on the city circuit. We remain focused and will do our best.”

Liam Lawson (15th): “I had big problems with the grip. This is disappointing, but not an excuse, as everyone is on equal footing. The car slid for most of the lap and at Turn 14 the slide was so severe that the attempt had to be aborted.

This is somewhat confusing, because at times the car handled well – in the first qualifying session it was clearly better than in the second. We will try to understand the reasons.

During the race, everyone takes care of the tires to prevent granulation at low temperatures. It will be difficult, but that is our goal. The conditions are not easy, but we will analyze the speed in the long heats in yesterday’s practice and try to make the car work in the race.”
