Red Bull does not have a low downforce rear wing for the Monza and Las Vegas rounds. The team did not do it due to budget constraints, but Max Verstappen believes this decision should be reconsidered.
Max Verstappen: “We have not made such a wing. We haven’t had it since 2022, we didn’t think we would need it. When you’re on a budget, you set your priorities, and we’ve shifted them.
I would like a rear wing with less downforce, or at least a different shape that is more effective. On the other hand, we only have one year to come up with these rules, and I don’t know if it makes sense to do so. But it seems to me that this means we lose two race weekends where we lose too much to our rivals.
Where do we lose? In curves and on straights. We know that we lose top speed with our wing, especially when the DRS is open. In addition, this complicates working with rubber, making it more difficult to get into working mode.
In qualifying we did everything we could, a better result than fifth place was impossible. We were a bit lucky that Lewis didn’t do a fast lap in the final, otherwise I would have been P6. I think we really made the best of everything we had. But we’ll see how everything turns out tomorrow. Qualifying is important, but the race is more important.”
