Both Haas F1 drivers were competitive during qualifying in Vegas, but only Nico Hulkenberg made it to the final…
Nico Hulkenberg (9th): “On this track it always seems like you can go faster, but it is very difficult. If you overdo it a little in low-grip conditions on asphalt, you will have an accident. The line is very thin.
Overall we qualified well, although I would have liked to finish a few places higher – we only had to make up five hundredths to reach sixth place. I will try to make the race good. We have a good car, I am optimistic.”
Kevin Magnussen (12th): “In practice it seemed like we weren’t fast enough, but in qualifying I did some decent laps. I expected us to be the best in the middle group, but suddenly I found myself behind several other cars and I don’t know why. However, if you start from twelfth place you can earn points, tomorrow we have a long race ahead of us.”
Ayo Komatsu, team leader: “I’m disappointed with the qualifying results, I think we underperformed a bit. But ninth and twelfth are not bad positions at the start of the race. Our goal is to earn points.”
