Fernando Alonso battled for points in Las Vegas, but finished eleventh. The Aston Martin driver is upset by this result as he believes the car’s speed has allowed him to achieve more.
His teammate Lance Stroll finished fifteenth and said he had no radio contact with the team for the entire race.
Fernando Alonso (11th): “In the race the speed of the car appeared to be higher. It was a pleasant surprise for us that we fought for the points until the last laps. The strategy was correct, the pit stops were quick and I was generally happier with the car. However, you don’t get anything for eleventh place, although I think we deserved points today.
I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel again at the next round in Qatar, where we will try to gain more speed.
I congratulate Max Verstappen on his fourth world title. He deserves it.”
Lance walk (15th): “It’s a difficult race. On the first lap my radio stopped working, so I couldn’t communicate with the team for the entire race. We planned to stay on the Medium tires for as long as possible after the start, but they quickly became ineffective, so I wanted to switch to Hard, but I couldn’t tell the team. When I pulled into the pits the team wasn’t ready for this, which cost me about 20 seconds.
We knew the race would be difficult, but without the radio problems and the slow pit stop, a twelfth place would have been possible. We know we have to improve the car, there is still a lot to be done.
Finally: congratulations to Max Verstappen on his fourth title, he really deserves it.”
