Sauber could not break the long streak – the race in Vegas did not yield any points…
Guanyu Zhou (13th): “We haven’t fought for places in the middle of the top ten for a long time, but today we finally have a real chance. I think we achieved the maximum result given our speed and there were virtually no dropouts in the race that could have helped us.
Still, the result is encouraging. We have taken a step forward and are going to Qatar with more confidence in our capabilities.”
Valtteri Bottas (18th): “First of all, congratulations to Max on winning the title early, Vegas is the best place for this!
My race turned out to be difficult. The tires didn’t last as long as we expected. The plan was to cover the distance with one pit stop, but it soon became clear that we would only be able to reach the finish with two tire changes.
At the start on Hard, only the one pit stop strategy could provide an advantage, but today that didn’t work and that surprised us. Pace-wise, I couldn’t make enough progress and tried to help Zhou for the sake of the team. A tough day, but the car is making progress. I hope we can end the season in better shape.”
