Lando Norris finished sixth in Las Vegas, just behind Max Verstappen, ending the title race they were in in favor of the Dutch Red Bull Racing driver. But according to Lando, he also has something to be proud of and has no regrets.
Lando Norris (6th): “First of all we have to congratulate Max! Although of course I’m a little offended. Even knowing that the fate of the title was practically decided, there was still some hope, but he performed incredibly well this season.
If he had the fastest car he dominated the championship, if he didn’t have the fastest car he still managed and was constantly on my tail.
Max has made my life difficult, but we have sometimes managed to make his life difficult as well. At the same time, he spent the season better than us, so we congratulate him from the bottom of our hearts. This is the most important thing right now.
If we talk about our race, it went quite badly. Our pace was bad, our grip was also bad. Overall we didn’t perform well this weekend.
But I can’t say that fighting for the title turned out to be more difficult than I expected, because I didn’t expect to be among the contenders at all. But overall I can say that I am happy that I remained calm and collected, although of course in this situation the pressure is inevitably stronger, there is more attention on you and you are more nervous.
No mistakes were allowed, both in qualifying and in the races, and if you have a chance of winning the title, it is mandatory and you have to drive better. And it seems to me that from the stage in Zandvoort I really rode better and did almost perfect work.
Although there is always something to work on, I think I had a good season, especially the second half. However, I don’t think that we, together with the whole team, were psychologically ready to fight for the title, and we had to pay for that… However, no one else could challenge Max, only us. So I am proud of what we have achieved and I have no regrets.”
Oscar Piastri (7th): “This evening was very difficult, but we had problems with the tires, so there is a lot to analyze after the race in Las Vegas. At the same time, I don’t think we were hoping to achieve much more than the 7th place we finished, but it is disappointing that we lost a lot to the leaders there.
But we still earned points, which is good, and let’s hope that the remaining two races will bring us more fun.
Finally, I would like to congratulate Max on winning the championship! He fought very well all year and deserves a fourth title!”
