At Williams, only one car reached the finish in Las Vegas – Franco Colapinto finished the race in 14th and Alex Albon retired due to power plant problems…
Franco Colapinto (14th): “It’s a difficult weekend. Yesterday I felt more and more comfortable during qualifying, but then I started the lap too close to Gasly, took the last corner very dirty and unfortunately had an accident.
Today I started from the pit lane and made some progress, although the granulation made it not easy to check the condition of the tires.
I have to thank our mechanics, who have become the heroes of the last races. Yesterday they had to rebuild my car so I could race and they did a great job. These guys are the best, I’m very grateful to them. We know that next week in Qatar we will have a better chance and we will be back in contention!”
Alex Albon (departure): “Today the car was fine, I could have earned a few points, so it is especially disappointing to drop out of the race due to suspected problems with the power plant. We need to understand whether this was the same problem as in the second training, or the same problem as in Singapore, but we will try to find out.
This year we had failures, partly due to my fault, and I want to compensate for them with good results, thanking the team. We will focus on the last two races of the season in the hope that the situation will change.”
