Verstappen: I didn’t think I could win four titles

Max Verstappen finished fifth in Las Vegas, but that result was enough to guarantee the 2024 world title. This is already the fourth title in a row for the Red Bull Racing driver and after the finish Max shared his emotions in an interview with Jenson Button and Terry Crews.

Max Verstappen (5th): “It was a long season, which we started wonderfully and almost without any problems, but then a difficult series started. However, the team remained united, we continued to work on improvements and were able to improve.

I am very proud of what has been done for me. I never thought I could become a four-time world champion, but I am happy and very proud of this achievement.

Once upon a time I was happy just to drive in Formula 1, I dreamed of potential victories and finishing on the podium – all usual things that are difficult to achieve. The result was a series like this – we kept trying for years. And now here I am as a four-time world champion – simply incredible!

The season turned out to be very difficult. Personally it was difficult at times, but it was important to stay calm. I learned a lot of lessons this season. I am very proud of how the team and I handled everything.

I think our fans were a bit spoiled last year with all the wins. They’ve had to wait quite a while mid-season this year, but it’s great to see them here again.

What can I tell the team? We’ve been through a lot together. All the peaks we have reached are special. We achieved this with a large group of people who worked on the track and at the base. Everyone has worked with maximum dedication to provide me with a car in which I can fight for the title. And the fact that I won the title four times in a row makes the achievement special.”

Max’s teammate Sergio Perez finished tenth. The Mexican racer said severe tire wear prevented him from achieving more.

Sergio Perez (10th): “We did not expect the level of rubber degradation to be so high. Unfortunately, this hit me hard. We used the best tires at the wrong time and I had to ride on the Medium for quite a bit. Unfortunately, this has stopped us from achieving more.

After qualifying we found out what stopped me from taking a higher position at the start. We are making progress and getting closer to a good pace. Like I said, we understand what happened in qualifying and we have to do better. Together with the team we will do everything we can to get back into contention in the remaining two races.”
