James Vowles, the head of the Williams team, summarized the results of another difficult weekend: in Las Vegas, Alex Albon retired due to technical problems, although he reached 10th position during the race, and Franco Colapinto finished 14th after the start from the pit lane.
James Vowles: “First of all, we must congratulate Max Verstappen on a well-deserved fourth world title. If we talk about our weekend, it was difficult from start to finish.
In the case of Franco Colapinto, our priority was his health, but in the morning, after a serious accident during qualifying, he returned to duty with the desire to participate in the race. Based on the results of a medical examination, he was cleared to start and subsequently performed well during the Grand Prix.
He started from the pit lane, which is always difficult, but he managed to gain a few positions and we had the chance to experiment with the settings and get useful information for the future.
As for Alex Albon, he was in a position during the race where he could count on points, but then his car had problems due to overheating. With each lap the temperature of all systems of the car rose – apparently there was a failure in the cooling system, and we still have to deal with it in detail.
It’s all a shame, especially because we missed the opportunity to earn points, but we are competing in a championship where it is extremely important to do our job accurately every weekend, and we are not able to do that at the moment.
There are still two races to go until the end of the season, and we must use them to the maximum to obtain information that will be useful to us next year. The season is very long, it was difficult for us, but this will only make us stronger.”
