Pierre Gasly, Alpine F1 driver, spoke about the characteristics of the Qatar Grand Prix circuit after completing a lap on a simulator at a virtual version of the Lusail International Circuit.
Pierre Gasly: “Hello everyone! We are going to Qatar, to Losail, to get acquainted with this route. Let’s go! The track is great, very flat, where you have to find a good rhythm. But it is quite difficult to maintain its boundaries there.
We approach Turn 1, which is at medium speed, but you can attack quite aggressively as there is a small bank there. As a result, the car usually holds the track well, and in the 2nd corner it is enough to release the gas a little.
Leaving it we start to accelerate quite early and head towards the second sector of the circle. The 4th and 5th are two right turns and you can enter them at a fairly high speed. After leaving the first there is a short acceleration, in the second we slow down a little to change the direction of movement.
Exiting the slow Turn 6 we try to start accelerating early, followed by another part of the lap at medium speed, which can be overcome at a good pace and then accelerate dynamically. The most important thing is to try to respect the limits of the track, especially because the speeds are high there.
Braking before Turn 10 is quite difficult and it is important to choose the right speed when exiting. This is followed by a fairly long acceleration, we go through turns 11 and 12 at full throttle and in turn 13 we do not brake either, but let off the gas a little.
Then another high-speed section begins, after which we approach the last corner, and the main thing is to exit it correctly. When approaching the start and finish straight it is important to maintain a good speed – the lap is complete!”
