Hamilton: Missing the test in Abu Dhabi will complicate the start of the year

Lewis Hamilton will miss testing in Abu Dhabi with Ferrari after the end of the season as he needs to complete his contract with Mercedes and take part in sponsorship events. In Qatar, the seven-time world champion said that he did not particularly want to participate, but at the same time noted that missing tests would complicate his adjustment to the new team.

Lewis Hamilton: Am I missing something if I don’t take part in the tests? Undoubtedly. This will definitely slow down the process [адаптации в Ferrari] and will make the start of next year more difficult, but we will do everything we can to win back.

I know Frederic Vasseur wanted me to run tests. As for me, I was in thoughts. The prospect of driving a red car for the first time in Abu Dhabi didn’t exactly make me excited.

In an ideal world I would like the first races to be unsupervised. Toto and the team had planned in advance that I would meet some sponsors and say goodbye to them. So I don’t think I would have been allowed to take the tests even if I had asked.

I have a contract with Mercedes until December 31 and that is not a problem for me, as I did not actually want to participate in these tests. I told Frederick in advance that I did not want to do these tests.
