The Cadillac team will make its debut in Formula 1 in 2026. Kevin Magnussen drove for the GM factory team in the IMSA series and said in Qatar that he knows the people responsible for the project in Formula 1.
Kevin Magnussen: “The arrival of such a large concern as GM in Formula 1 means a lot for the sport. As far as I know they’re going to put together a full-fledged team, which is great. More cars on the grid should please the fans. The technical regulations in Formula 1 will change in 2026. I hope that the new rules will equalize the strength of the teams.
I drove for the factory Cadillac team in the IMSA series in 2021 and I know the racing division management well, but I have not spoken to them. But these people are involved in the Formula 1 project.”
With two rounds left of the season, Haas is sixth in the constructors’ championship. Kevin explained how important it is for the team to maintain this position: “It is very important for the team to achieve the highest possible place in the Constructors’ Championship. We are now sixth, but only one point ahead of Alpine and four points ahead of RB.
Financially speaking, the difference between sixth and eighth place is enormous. The prize money is invested in the development of the team in the future and that is why it is very important for us to finish sixth.
Ayo Komatsu and I have already talked about what we can do together in the future. We’ll see how everything goes and what my plans are, but I would like to remain part of the team. After so many years together, I would like to maintain the relationship.”
