One of the topics of discussion after the Las Vegas Grand Prix was the disagreement between the Ferrari drivers. During that race, Charles Leclerc did not hide his dissatisfaction with his partner’s actions, believing that Carlos Sainz violated their agreements and did not follow the team’s instructions.
At a press conference in Qatar, Leclerc was asked what kind of conversation took place within the team so that mutual trust between teammates could be restored.
Charles Leclerc: “Nothing special was said. Actually, I don’t need that, because Carlos and I have a very good relationship. But sometimes I cross certain boundaries, sometimes he does, but then we discuss what happened just between us, looking into each other’s eyes.
We have known each other well for a long time, so we come to mutual understanding very quickly. Sometimes such conversations are necessary, they help rebuild a little, and I have no doubt that we will have no problems at all in the remaining races of the season.
Anyway, we’re trying to help the team win the Constructors’ Championship because it will benefit both of us. An opportunity like this doesn’t come around often, and to achieve this goal we both have to do our best. We need each other, we need to interact – without this there will be no results.
In any case, it is not easy to achieve this, this weekend does not promise to be easy either, but if we work together harmoniously as one team, maybe we will achieve it.
When we talk about my position in the individual championship, I always say that whoever takes 2nd place is the first loser. I never set myself the task of finishing second, third or fourth.
At the same time, 2nd place in the championship at the end of such a season can of course also become an important achievement in its own way. The year is not easy and our priority remains winning the Constructors’ Championship, but if we manage to finish the season in second place in the individual standings, this could be a good bonus. That’s why I can’t say that this doesn’t bother me at all…”
