In the time since the last Formula 2 race, an important event took place in the life of Gabriel Bortoleto, the leader of the individual championship of the youth series: his contract with Sauber was officially confirmed and in 2025 he will make his debut in the Formula 1.
But as the 20-year-old Brazilian prepares for the remaining two rounds of the F2 season with Invicta Racing, especially as his lead over Isaac Hajjar, the Campos driver, is very small, just 4.5 points.
“I’m going to prepare for the upcoming race weekend in Qatar and not think about the championship at all,” Gabriel said in an interview with the F2 press office. “We know where we are, we know what needs to be done, but all this does not change the fact that Isaac has slightly fewer points than me in the individual competition.
I believe whoever performs the best in the two remaining stages will win the championship. Paul Aron shouldn’t be counted out either, but I guess since Isaac and I are in the first two places and we have more points than everyone else, it’s just a matter of who can handle the job better over the last two weekends – ends.
After my contract with Sauber was announced, I did not immediately return to Brazil, so when I came home I just rested, led a normal lifestyle and paid a lot of attention to preparing for the remaining races.
I kept in touch with my team and we did the same things as usual, including analyzing the onboard video footage from races in previous years. I feel ready for the next two weekends in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
I’m in a good mood because since I was seven I dreamed of becoming a Formula 1 driver. It was at that age that I started motorsport. And now my dream comes true. But there are still two legs of the season ahead, and now all attention must be focused solely on this. The priority is to finish this year as best as possible, but I am already looking forward to 2025.
I have already walked along the highway in Losail, it looks very good. There are a lot of fast corners, one after the other, and it will be interesting to see who can find the right balance in the car without making too obvious compromises.”
