Nico Hulkenberg once again confirmed that even in a far from fastest car he can show impressive results in qualifying, and in Qatar he again reached the final. Kevin Magnussen reached the second part of qualifying and set a 15th fastest time.
Nico Hulkenberg (9th): “Good qualifying, there were no complications. Maybe we should look at our performance in the last session because our tactics were not the same as everyone else’s. Maybe we should look into that.
Otherwise we worked with confidence and were again very close to Alpine and RB in terms of speed. The results are very tight and overall the difference between pole and last time is very small.
The track is very fast, the asphalt offers excellent grip, but of course requires the right driving approach and the physical demands are very high.
In the sprint it won’t be easy for anyone fighting in the middle of the peloton to qualify for points as they will only be awarded to the top eight, so we’ll see how everything goes. A lot can happen, so you have to be prepared to take advantage of every opportunity. Tomorrow we have something to fight for.”
Kevin Magnussen (15th): “The car performed very well. But on the exit lap I got into traffic and so it happened that I started my fast lap behind Niko’s car. The situation is not ideal, but Haas has a good car and we have good chances tomorrow.
We will see what we can achieve, but since this is a sprint it will take place without pit stops, which means we will have to overtake on track.”
