George Russell was second fastest in Friday qualifying, just six hundredths behind the pole holder. Lewis Hamilton finished seventh…
George Russell (2nd): “I felt strong the whole session. The car is doing great in Losail. This song is one of the best once you get into the rhythm. She is very fast.
On the last lap of the qualifying final I rode the high-speed section for the first time with the accelerator fully depressed, and at the exit of the corner I overloaded the engine a little, charging the battery while braking.
I kept the gap to a minimum and was disappointed to lose speed coming out of the corner, but today Lando was out of reach and in the sprint I will try to fight with him. He is fighting for the Constructors’ Championship and I have nothing to lose. I’ll try to make a good start. However, this is just a sprint, we have to think about tomorrow’s qualifying.”
Lewis Hamilton (7th): “Same qualifications as everyone else, not very good. I didn’t have enough speed. This happens every weekend. The car behaved relatively well. No problem. I have nothing more to say.
The long series of laps went well. But starting from the back is very difficult to fight for the win. Tomorrow I will do my best.
The positive thing is that the car is fast and George will have to fight for pole tomorrow.”
