During qualifying for the sprint, Sergio Perez dropped out of contention in the first session, blaming Charles Leclerc for this, and Max Verstappen posted the sixth fastest time…
Max Verstappen (6th): “Today we didn’t have enough speed, the balance of the car didn’t allow us to actively attack in the middle of the corner. The car is a bit out of control, so everything is very difficult here. Everything went well on the fast parts, but on all the others there were problems that prevented me from reaching more.
Sixth place more or less corresponds to our form. Perhaps even the seventh is more realistic. Obviously these are not the positions we want to go to. It will be difficult to fight with rivals in the sprint.
We’ll see if we can improve in Saturday’s qualifying, but I don’t expect things to suddenly change for the better. It would be strange.”
Sergio Perez (16th): “Unfortunately we started the attempt too late due to a problem with the stabilizer bar, and when I went onto the track everyone tried to let their opponents go to make sure there was enough free space for them.
Then Charles appeared, we struggled in the first corner and beyond, losing a few tenths there – this was enough to get out of the fight.
It’s a shame that this happened. I felt like we got more out of the car compared to the first practice. He had good potential, but I couldn’t realize it.”
