Russell: The Verstappen incident was unpleasant

George Russell qualified second in Qatar and lost to Max Verstappen in a tough battle…

George Russell (2nd): “Great session! In the last four qualifying sessions we have been on the front row every time, something I couldn’t even dream of a while ago.

I feel great now. We managed to get into a great rhythm. My first lap was one of the best of my career, but for some reason I couldn’t improve and Max passed me. But there are also positive aspects. The car has been great the last two weekends, I’m just enjoying it.

The Verstappen incident was unpleasant. He got in my way and I ended up driving my whole butt over the gravel. I hope I haven’t damaged it. Maybe that’s why it wasn’t possible to improve the result, I don’t know. But two corners before the start of the lap it made me a bit uneasy.

I hope we can have a normal race, without team tactics and all that. We will all strive for this. It’s nice that Max is also involved in the battle. I was surprised by their progress – yesterday and this morning they were out of their element, but in qualifying both riders qualified for the final, with Max winning pole. I think we’re going to have a good race.”
