Albon: We just weren’t fast enough

Neither Williams driver made it past the first qualifying session on Saturday, with both admitting they were still struggling to overcome the difficulties they faced on the circuit in Qatar this weekend.

Alex Albon (16th): “Today we just weren’t fast enough, and in general we’ve had problems with speed all weekend. Teams like Alpine and Sauber brought technical innovations to this stage, so we were always a bit behind them.

Between the sprint and qualifying we made some good changes to the settings, but it wasn’t enough. In addition, an unexpected gust of wind at the end of the qualifying lap affected the car’s behavior.

We will try to learn the necessary lessons and tackle the task ahead of us tomorrow as best as possible, although overtaking is not easy on this circuit. Overall, let’s see what we can achieve.”

Franco Colapinto (19th): “Today I didn’t feel comfortable driving and during qualifying balance problems emerged, which made our work very difficult.

When the car was in park, we changed the suspension, which meant that with these settings we had no opportunity to work on the track with minimal fuel load and had to pay for it.

In addition, we also made some changes to the settings after the sprint, but we may have made a mistake in the choice of direction. It’s a shame because the results are very tight, but yesterday we showed good pace in a long series of laps, so we will try to prepare better for Sunday’s race, and then we will see how everything turns out. ”
