Alonso: After the sprint we changed the settings

During qualifying in Qatar, Fernando Alonso made it to the final, where he posted the eighth fastest time, and Lance Stroll dropped out of contention in the second session…

Fernando Alonso (8th): “I’m happy to have made the final in today’s qualifying – the car behaved better than in any other session of the weekend. In the sprint we couldn’t make any progress, but after the sprint we adjusted the settings and now everything seems to be working as it should.

The team did well, we handled the traffic well in qualifying. I have a good starting position for tomorrow, it is difficult to overtake here, I hope we can build on these results in the race.”

Lance walk (15th): “On the last lap of the second session I seriously locked up the tires in the first corner, losing about half a second. The tires were not yet within range, the grip on the asphalt was insufficient and I lost my chances of reaching the final.

After the sprint we adjusted the settings a bit and the car improved in qualifying. Usually the race is more difficult for us because the car wears the tires a lot, but we will see how we perform tomorrow.”
