Verstappen: I haven’t started from pole in a long time!

Max Verstappen won qualifying in Qatar just like last year, and this is the 41st pole position in the career of the four-time world champion. But the last time he started from pole was a long time ago, it was five months ago in Austria.

Max Verstappen (1st): “This is some kind of madness! I didn’t expect to win pole. The team has done a great job and given me a car that feels much more complete, so I can attack more aggressively. During qualifying I felt much more comfortable driving.

We changed a few things in the settings, but I didn’t think at all that this would increase the speed so noticeably – overall this is all encouraging. I of course hope that this remains the case during tomorrow’s race. However, I don’t know this yet. But now the car has simply become more stable during one fast lap, and this is exactly what we need. I’m very happy to start from pole, because this hasn’t happened for a long time!

Tomorrow’s race will be difficult in terms of physical activity, but it will also push the tires to the limit and we will have to find the right approach for that. On this track the left front tire wears out very quickly. But I hope that thanks to the institutions we found today, it will be a little easier for us in this regard.”

Sergio Perez (9th): “I think we have made significant progress and I really hope that our car will be able to run at a good pace in tomorrow’s race. Of course I would really like to earn at least a few points.

I hope we can make progress because the pace we showed in qualifying was promising. It seems we have managed to find the right approach to working with the car.”
