Yuki Tsunoda: The car simply had no speed

Yuki Tsunola and Liam Lawson finished thirteenth and fourteenth in Qatar. The RB drivers said the car was not fast enough to compete for points.

Yuki Tsunoda (13th): “It’s a difficult race. I had a good start and knew this was my best chance to make up ground. But then the car simply had no speed and I rolled backwards. We will work with the team to look at the telemetry data and, going forward, understand why nothing worked this weekend.

The race is in Abu Dhabi next week. We all have to reset, go to Abu Dhabi and do our best on the last race weekend of the season.”

Liam Lawson (14th): “Today we were not fast enough to compete with the teams that are our direct rivals. At the restart after the first safety car I spun while trying to overtake Valtteri Bottas. The tires were not warm enough, I lost control of the car and did my best to avoid contact.

Then I had to make up for it, the pace wasn’t bad, but I was way behind and closer to the finish I had problems with my balance. A difficult race, but last year we also had problems on this circuit.

We have made big steps forward this season, but it is not enough. We have lost a lot of points against our rivals in the Constructors’ Championship, but we will continue to fight as hard as we can in Abu Dhabi.”
