The Red Bull youth program is often criticized. The world champions that emerged – Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen – prepared on the sidelines, the program did not bring their riders to this level and for many it broke their careers at a very young age. But program curator Helmut Marko disagrees with the criticism…
Helmut Marko: “We bring drivers to Formula 1. We were the first to decide on this. Others followed, but not on the same scale. However, we are always criticized when we let our riders down.
I disagree with this criticism. 95% of the drivers who have gone through our program and then compete in DTM, GT, Formula E earn far more than they could earn in a regular job. Sometimes their careers in the sport they love last more than fifteen years. Our youth program has laid the foundation for this.”
