With nine Grands Prix left until the end of the season, Ferrari is second in the Constructors’ Championship, 97 points behind Red Bull, but sporting director Laurent Mekis says the team is still in a fighting mood…
Laurent Mekis: “The team is in a good mood. Our leaders, Charles, Carlos and Mattia, lead the team. There are good moments, there are failures, but we all follow them. They know how to reset no matter what, draw conclusions and go to the next race with a smile and even more motivation.
Carlos Sainz improved a lot in the second half of the season. He is able to analyze the car’s behavior and relay this information to the engineers, which contributes to the team’s progress. When finalizing the car, we’re not always sure we’re making real progress, but now there seems to be a positive trend.
Charles Leclerc is showing amazing speed this year. He doesn’t need advice from the team, he’s a great racer who knows how to get the most out of the car. He is a true master, but he, like all of us, sometimes makes mistakes – no one is safe from this.
We don’t pay attention to mistakes, we appreciate the positive moments – and this year he impressed us a lot. We don’t want him to change anything.”
