Formula 1 Executive Director Stefano Domenicali said the organization would no longer hold races under its auspices in Russia.
In February, after meetings between Formula 1 executives, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and team representatives, it was decided not to hold the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi, which was due to take place September 23-25, due to the situation in Ukraine. The southern city was supposed to host the Russian leg of the championship for the last time, after which the F-1 contract with the Igora Drive circuit in the Leningrad region began to operate.
“Money is important to us, but it’s not the only thing we pay attention to. If only income were taken into account, the racing schedule would be different. I always say, “Never say never.” But in this case, I promise that we will not conduct any more negotiations with the organizers of the Russian Grand Prix. There will be no more racing,” said German Sky Sport citing Domenicali, quoting Bild.
According to the media, the Russian Grand Prix brought Formula 1 about 50 million euros a year. For the first time, the country hosted the stage of the “royal races” in 2014.
