Six participants in an unauthorized protest, who appeared at the Silverstone circuit at the start of the British Grand Prix, appeared in court on Friday.
On the afternoon of July 3, they climbed over the protective barriers in the Wellington straight area, the fastest section of the track, before sitting down on the tarmac. But it can be said that the action practically did not work, because in the first corner after the start there was a dramatic accident involving Alfa Romeo driver Guanyu Zhou, the safety car mode was immediately announced and the race was soon stopped by red flags.
The six protesters, four men and two women, were charged with conspiracy to disrupt the peace and appeared in a courtroom in Northampton yesterday.
Four of them were released on bail until the next hearing, scheduled for October 3, but two – 21-year-old Louis McKenzie and 29-year-old Joshua Smith – are still in custody.
The trial continues in October, with protesters expected to have a chance to deny or admit the charges at the next meeting.
