Raikkonen says he won’t risk anything in NASCAR

At the moment, training begins on the American circuit at Watkins Glen ahead of the NASCAR series stage, in which Kimi Raikkonen will participate. We said he will drive the Trackhouse Racing team’s Chevrolet Camaro, but he stated again that he has no plans to continue competing in this overseas series’ races.

“Of course I just want to have fun, but I will also try to perform as well as possible,” Kimi said before Saturday’s training session. “I think we did our best preparation as the options for this are limited by NASCAR’s current rules.

But so far everything is going great. I see no risk to myself. Why not try? What am I losing? Well, what if I once didn’t have the most successful experience in NASCAR racing or any other racing – now I don’t care at all. I’m only doing this for myself. The result can be either good or bad, but can be the same after 20 races.

I don’t see any negative points at all and I think this is a very interesting experience. I’m sure there are a lot of drivers who want to try NASCAR, but it’s not that easy. Perhaps my participation in Project 91 will open some doors, and in the future there will be more opportunities for European riders to participate in this series.”

The NASCAR championship organizers are paying close attention to Kimi’s participation in the upcoming race and have even released a special poster for this event.

In the spring of 2011, when Kimi Raikkonen was temporarily out of Formula 1, he became interested in the NASCAR series and then spent several races on oval tracks, mastering a technique unknown to him. But this weekend, the 2007 World Champion will drive a new-generation NASCAR car for the first time. According to the Finn, in terms of handling and road holding, he is already much closer to sports cars from the GT class.
