Jos Verstappen happy with Ypres Rally results

Jos Verstappen finished a distant 60th in the Ypres Rally, but that result in itself says little. The most important thing is different: despite yesterday’s departure from the track, which meant a lot of time was lost, Jos was able to drive the distance to the end and his Citroen C3 was damaged.

But the mechanics of the DG Sport team managed to repair the car and on Sunday the father of the reigning world champion continued towards the finish of the most difficult rally. On the four speed sections of the last day of competition, he showed the 25th, 26th, 24th and 25th results. This of course deserves respect, especially when you consider that the former Formula 1 driver is already 50 years old, he took part in the rally for the fifth time and in a rally of this level – for the first time.

By the way, on Saturday afternoon, before flying off the track due to his own mistake, Verstappen was riding in 20th place in the general classification.

“Today everything went well, although the lack of experience has an influence of course,” Verstappen.com quotes him as saying. “But that’s why we participate in the rally, we try to learn a lot and gain experience. My co-driver and I went to the start of the Ypres Rally first, but we knew how difficult it was.

It’s a shame we flew off the track on Saturday – it happened so unexpectedly. If I hadn’t made my mistake, we would have taken a good place. But I’m glad we were able to continue the fight today and in the end I’m satisfied. I am very proud that we made it to the finish.”

In the WRC2 class, in which the crew of Jos Verstappen participated, Frenchman Stephane Lefebvre was the best, finishing in absolute 6th place – he also drove a Citroën C3. And the victory in the Ypres Rally was celebrated by an experienced Est Ott Tänak, a driver of the Hyundai factory team, world champion in 2015.
