This weekend Valtteri Bottas held his fifth annual duathlon near the picturesque Finnish town of Pajulahti, and today these races were successfully held, thanks in part to the good weather.
True, Valtteri himself could not show the result he had hoped for. First, he wanted to do better in the duathlon than last year when he finished 6th. Second, the day before, he promised to try and beat his girlfriend, Tiffany Cromwell, who also started the Valtteri Bottas Duathlon.
However, Tiffany, a professional cyclist, including a member of the Australian National Cycling Team, coped with the task better than her boyfriend. She won the women’s duathlon, while Valtteri finished only 10th in the men’s.
At the award ceremony, she admitted that the victory was not easy for her, but participating in these competitions was a great experience.
“Valtteri and I exchanged jokes that this was also our personal fight, but at the end of the distance I still managed to get ahead of him!” Tiffany added.
“I knew I could probably outrun her in the cross-country distance, but in the cycling race she will be stronger,” Bottas remarked cheerfully and personally handed her a diploma for the win. “But thanks to her excellent stamina, she kept fighting and stayed ahead of me. However, this was to be expected and I was not upset when I lost to an Olympiad competitor. A well deserved win!”
Valtteri also promised that the duathlon will be held again in August 2023, but the date will be announced later when the Formula 1 calendar for next year is confirmed.
