Antonio Giovinazzi has two practice sessions in a Haas F1 on Friday. As confirmed by the US team, his participation is scheduled at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, as well as the US Grand Prix in Austin.
The 28-year-old Italian has 62 Formula 1 experience and is still a reserve driver for Ferrari. But Antonio also teamed up with Haas, working with them in seven Friday practice sessions in 2017. This year Giovinazzi raced in Formula E with the American Dragon Penske Racing team.
Gunther Steiner, Haas F1 Principal: “We are delighted to welcome Antonio Giovinazzi back to our team for two practice sessions. Ferrari wants him to gain the experience of driving the new generation of Formula 1 cars on race weekends, and we are happy to help.
A similar situation was in 2017, but the difference is that Antonio now has the experience of three seasons in Formula 1 so that he can provide the team with useful information about the car in Italy and America. I look forward to meeting Antonio again.”
Antonio Giovinazzi: “I’m happy to get behind the wheel again during the official Formula 1 sessions. Besides working in the simulator it’s also important to drive a real car, so I’m already looking forward to wearing my race suit and helmet again.
I get the chance to feel comfortable behind the wheel of a new generation of cars, and this is the best way to prepare if my reserve driver services are needed. And driving on such difficult and interesting tracks as Monza and COTA will make this experience even more exciting.
I thank Haas F1 and Ferrari and I am already preparing to contribute to the work of the team, which already counted on my help in 2017.”
