Kevin Magnussen is pleased with how he spent his summer holidays – and is looking forward to returning to racing…
Q: Kevin, welcome back after the holidays. What did you do on holiday and how do you start the second part of the season?
Kevin Magnussen: I sailed in Denmark with my family and friends, I was happy to take a few weeks off from travel, but during this time I completely reset and am now perfectly ready for the second part of the season. We will try to realize the potential of the updated car and earn points.
Question: Stage 14 takes place on the legendary Spa circuit, where unforgettable sports moments have taken place for decades. What do you like about this song and what memories does it bring back to you?
Kevin Magnussen: Spa is a great job, a legendary job. It is very fast, you are not only impressed by its history but also by its controls. Everyone always looks forward to the podium in the Spa.
In fact, it was the first Formula 1 race I attended with my father as a child. My first memories of Formula 1 have to do with that weekend.
Q: Eau Rouge and Raidillon have changed relegation zones this year, with gravel catchers added to different corners. Do you welcome these changes?
Kevin Magnussen: It is good that gravel safety zones have been created instead of asphalt, on the one hand it is safer, on the other hand it increases the risk of departure when leaving the track. I think this is correct.
Q: This weekend a new technical guideline that measures machine build-up will come into effect. How does the VF-22 behave, are you used to this problem?
Kevin Magnussen: We have no problems with construction. There were some problems at the start of the season, but we made quick changes to the car’s design to solve this problem. In the beginning we had to sacrifice the efficiency of the machine a bit to solve the build-up problem, but then we gradually returned to the previous efficiency.
I think the teams will easily solve this problem if they want to, but everyone understands that this will have to be paid for with a decrease in speed and efficiency. But we did it, and others did, now the adjustments will have to be made by those who didn’t before.
