Mercedes has abandoned the development of a lightweight chassis amid rumors that several teams are pursuing the strategy ahead of this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix.
However, Mercedes ruled itself out of the race for teams trying to shed weight by developing a lightweight chassis due to the high cost of implementing the idea.
“It would be too expensive. Not just because of crash tests. You need to build three new chassis, and they will cost you two million more, – quote the words of the representatives of “Mercedes” Auto Motor und Sport.
Mercedes drivers have been on the podium in the last six races of the current Formula 1 season.
