At the end of the season, Fernando Alonso will leave the Alpine team, but now he focuses on getting maximum points for the team in Spa…
Q: Fernando, what did you do during your summer vacation?
Fernando Alonso: We all miss racing in August, but a break is needed. After 20 years in motorsport, I know that the recovery period is very important, especially with such a busy calendar. At the same time, it is equally important to keep training, because after the break, the races will continue until December.
Q: Do you like racing in Spa?
Fernando Alonso: Love. This is a historic stage, you can overtake on the track, so the races are always interesting. The weather here is traditionally unpredictable, you can always expect surprises.
We wouldn’t mind the rain this weekend – our car is more competitive in such conditions. We want to put on a show for the fans, especially after last year!
Q: What are your goals for the remaining races?
Fernando Alonso: I want to enjoy the rest of this season with Alpine, we can still achieve a lot. I will give everything until the finish of the last race in Abu Dhabi. Our goal is to finish fourth in the Constructors’ Championship, in the remaining races we will have a tense battle with McLaren.
We made serious progress in the first half of the season and consistently ahead of our closest rivals in the last few races. We need to maintain this pace to maintain our positions.
