In January 2021, Kevin Magnussen became a father – his daughter was called Laura, and now he admitted in an interview with Racefans that he raised her in a very different way than he was once raised…
Kevin Magnussen: “Growing up, my parents didn’t let me go to school for my racing career. I don’t think I would do this to my child. I want to make sure she goes to school and graduates.
I had a great childhood, there are a lot of good memories associated with it – it was fun, but we were always aiming for Formula 1 and this is a big risk. I don’t know what would have happened if I hadn’t been successful in Formula 3 at the age of 16, because I didn’t go to school much.
Of course I won’t pressure Laura, but there’s no point in hiding my love for racing from her. In my spare time I like to go karting, and if she wants to try it, of course I let her. But I think my parents were a bit more ambitious for me than I was for her. I think I’ll just let her have fun, but if there’s passion and ambition for racing, I’m ready to help.
