Daniel Ricciardo isn’t the first time he’s starred in the hit TV show Trevor Noah on Comedy Central, and it’s felt that he’s in his element there. But this time, the presenter surprised even the cheerful Australian when he put a pair of sneakers on the table and offered to drink champagne, repeating the “trick” of Riccardo himself, who does this when he wins races.
The two did it live, laughing cheerfully, although it is suspected that there were still cups disguised in the sneakers. However, during the course of the show, quite serious topics also came up.
“Formula 1 is a dramatic sport, although the producers of the Netflix documentary series Drive to Survive have exaggerated a few things,” said Daniel. – But there are plenty of different kinds of dramas. When I knocked Carlos Sainz off the track at the start of the race in Imola, I went to him after the finish to apologize.
Actually, I felt uncomfortable with it. But since I’ve been in Formula 1 for a long time and I have a lot of experience, I understand very well how much effort each of us puts in to work. We are only 20 in this championship and we have a lot in common.
We treat each other with respect and I felt I should apologise. It’s nothing personal, and I don’t think everyone did the same. But it seemed to me that apologizing would make me feel a little better at heart. In addition, I now know that if Carlos and my cars are side by side, we will continue to fight, but there will be no undue emotional tension.
Next weekend is the first Miami Grand Prix and Daniel spoke about the characteristics of the race on the new track: “There is a kind of challenge in this. For example the tracks I know very well I imagine so clearly that I can drive an imaginary circle along it, and at the same time you can time it – I believe the discrepancy with the real result will be on the circle within one or two seconds.
When we arrive at a new job, I will not say that we have to solve some very difficult tasks. But sometimes the track is built somewhere in the fields, in the open space, where there’s a lot of space, and the track in Miami is built around the Hard Rock Stadium complex, and I have a feeling it’s going to be insanely fun there.
On Tuesday I worked on the McLaren simulator to remember the track layout, but when we start training we will have to really adapt as soon as possible. When the track is new to everyone, chances are you’ll understand some features faster than anyone else.
