We wrote more than once about the desire of Michael Andretti, a former racer and successful entrepreneur, to set up his own team in Formula 1, but this project was not supported by the World Championship leadership.
The day before, during a meeting with the press, the head of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali, confirmed once again that there are no plans yet to increase the number of teams.
Stefano Domenicali: “At the moment we do not believe that the increase in the number of teams will benefit Formula 1. There are other interested parties who express their wishes in confidence, but Andretti chose the open road. The approach here is very simple. Anyone applying to participate in the Championship must give serious guarantees and demonstrate a long-term commitment.
When several car manufacturers are interested in Formula 1 at such a difficult time for the industry, it shows confidence in our platform, it shows that we have taken the right path, combining innovative technologies and shows. If there are eight car manufacturers in Formula 1 in the future, there is no longer any danger that everything is under control.”
