Audi announced its entry into Formula 1 in 2026 as a powertrain supplier on Friday morning. A similar statement from Porsche is expected in the coming days.
As both automakers are part of the Volkswagen Group and use common components for production cars, there are speculations that Audi and Porsche will join forces in Formula 1 and develop a power plant that will be supplied to teams under different brands.
However, at the launch of the project in Spa, Audi chairman Markus Duismann said the companies would work on their engines independently.
“In Formula 1, we will operate completely separately,” says Duismann. – Our development and production will be done in Germany, and when Porsche comes to Formula 1, they will do everything in the UK. Our projects will be completely separate.”
