Alfa Romeo has announced the end of its partnership with Sauber Motorsport at the end of 2023. This is stated in the official press release of the Stellantis group, of which Alfa Romeo is also a part.
“Alfa Romeo announced a return to Formula 1 in 2017 with a long-term plan and confirmed its partnership with Sauber in 2023 in July 2022, given the promising results of the first half of the season,” Stellantis said in a statement. “As the brand’s economic and industrial reform is achieved in 2022, Alfa Romeo will explore different options and decide which one best fits the brand’s long-term strategy.”
Alfa Romeo’s decision to end its partnership with Sauber comes just hours after Audi announced it would enter Formula 1 as a powertrain supplier in 2026. The German company has not yet confirmed which team it will partner with, but it is rumored that Audi will buy 75% of Sauber. Alfa Romeo’s statement indirectly confirms this.
