This year, before the start of the race weekend, the teams will present technical innovations prepared for the next phase of the championship and briefly explain their aim.
The special nature of the Belgian circuit forced everyone to make certain adjustments to the aerodynamic body kits of cars, but someone has a very extensive list of changes, someone is limited to a few improvements.
Red Bull
Red Bull has slightly redesigned the profile of the side pontoons to make it more efficient at cooling the machine’s systems with the oncoming airflow. The lower triangular arm of the rear suspension has also been improved to reduce drag coefficient.
Ferrari
Ferraris are fitted with smaller rear fenders and the extra lower rear fender has been modified accordingly.
Mercedes
The Mercedes team has brought a number of new aerodynamic body kits to Spa, not counting the special rear wing, which are fully in line with the characteristics of the Belgian circuit.
On the machines of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, new, more efficient versions of the front fenders have appeared, which differ in a different shape of the end plates.
The changes also affected the underbody, primarily related to the rear change. The edges, protruding from the sides of the W13, have become smaller, which on the one hand slightly reduces the downward force generated by these elements, on the other hand improves the quality of the flow to the diffuser, making it possible to compensate for these losses.
McLaren
The list of all kinds of modifications to which the McLaren car was subjected is quite extensive. Like other teams, the MCL36 has new versions of the rear fenders, as well as the rear brake channels, reconfigured slots designed to cool the powerplant, and other systems located under the fuselage sections.
But the diffuser has also been improved, which ensures a better distribution of the airflow under the floor and an increase in the overall efficiency of this part of the aerodynamic body kit. Small wings also appeared in the rear area of the body, helping to create additional downforce.
At the front of the car, the changes affected the fairing, reducing the aerodynamic drag created by the steering rod.
alpine
On Alpine machines, a new bottom appeared with a slightly modified geometry at the front. The position of the air ducts for the rear brakes has also been adjusted, improving the quality of the flow to the rear wing.
AlphaTauri
The updated rear wing and additional rear wing on the AlphaTauri match track performance at Spa, but there are also additional elements on the rear brake channels and the location of the rear suspension lower fairing has been modified.
Hare F1
The configuration of the air ducts of the rear brakes has been changed, the rear wing has also been reduced in size.
Aston Martin
Taking into account the characteristics of the track, the elements of the front and rear wings have been reduced.
The same can be said about these aerodynamic elements of Alfa Romeo and Williams cars.
