Szafnauer: Piastri lacks professional ethics

Alpine F1 chief Otmar Szafnauer commented on the controversy surrounding Oscar Piastri, which is now being dealt with by the FIA’s Contract Recognition Board.

Q: Do you think Oscar Piastri has signed a contract for next year with another team?
Otmar Safnauer: Yes, there is no doubt about that.

Q: With McLaren?
Otmar Safnauer: Yes.

Q: And what can you say about this?
Otmar Safnauer: He is a promising young driver and he has no experience in Formula 1. My wish to Oscar: he still lacks professional ethics, because he signed a contract with us last November and we are fulfilling all our obligations regarding his preparation on Formula 1. .

And for the next three years he will be required to either play for our team or wherever we send him. I just want to remind him what agreement he signed last year.

Q: McLaren has decided to end their partnership with Daniel Ricciardo early so there is a vacancy there and they are counting on Piastri. At the same time, when asked if he was ready to return to the team from Enstone, to Alpine, Daniel replied that he was ready, but not sure if you would take him…
Otmar Safnauer: The team speaks highly of Daniel and remembers the time he played for Renault, but so far our strategic plans have not been discussed. But everyone at Alpine, including the engineers, commends Ricciardo for his racing talent, for knowing how to get the team on the right track.
