Max Verstappen led the minutes of the second free practice of the Belgian Grand Prix. The Red Bull Racing driver said the team has not changed its approach to work this weekend, despite the imminent loss of positions at the start for the power plant replacement.
His team-mate Sergio Perez set the tenth fastest time and explained his delay with the changeable Belgian weather and problems with the car.
Max Verstappen (1st): “The replacement of the power station had almost no effect on our preparation for the weekend. We kept working to get the most out of the car. There is still a bit to correct the balance, but from the first turn to the track I was satisfied with the car’s behaviour.
Based on the information collected with an empty and a full tank, we are satisfied with the car. Of course, like everyone else, I would like to work more on the track, but the start of the weekend can be considered successful. In the race we will do our best to earn back.”
Sergio Perez (10th): “I couldn’t find a rhythm today. This is partly due to the weather, partly due to minor issues with the rear wing. I had to go back to the pits for a while, but we solved the problem.
We were unable to set a good time today due to the weather, especially on the fast lap on the Soft tires in the second practice, as the track was already quite wet. In a wet corner you immediately lose your balance – in such conditions it is difficult to learn anything.
We will analyze the information gathered, but I believe we can be competitive, but for this everything has to be done correctly in qualifying and in the race. It’s always a pleasure to drive on this track, so I’m looking forward to continuing the weekend.”
