On the machines of several riders, the power plants or their individual elements were replaced before the start of the Belgian weekend. We already wrote about the fine for replacing the power plant that Leclerc will receive, but as expected, not only he is being punished.
Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing), Lando Norris (McLaren) and Esteban Okon (Alpine) have received their fourth MGU-H combustion engines, turbines and engine generators since the start of the season. The MGU-K is also changed on the machines of Verstappen and Okon.
In the case of Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas, the ICE will be fifth and the MGU-H sixth.
Alpine Okona will also change the energy storage unit and the control electronics unit, which will be the third such elements of the power plant since the start of the season. In addition, the control electronics were replaced by Haas from Mick Schumacher.
Most riders got new gearboxes — and fines for unscheduled replacements.
Leclerc, Schumacher and Bottas have a loss of position penalty – 25 for Charles and Valtteri, 20 for Schumacher, but the wording of the stewards’ decision does not include the phrase “at the end of the grid”, so they will start ahead of Verstappen, Norris and Ocon, who were fined at the start at the end of the starting field for changing different parts of the power plant. The exact order of the riders at the start will be determined in the qualification.
Many racers changed elements of power plants without penalties and stayed within the limit. These are Mercedes customers – Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Daniel Ricciardo, Sebastian Vettel, Lance Stroll, Alexander Albon and Nicholas Latifi,
