Mick Schumacher: You can fight rivals with the car

Mick Schumacher hasn’t played in Melbourne yet, but he’s sure to adapt soon…

Q: You have never raced in Australia before, what do you know about Melbourne and the track features?
Mick Schumacher: This weekend I will be racing for the first time in Melbourne and in general in Australia – I am very excited. Looking forward to getting to know the track and the city. I was here with my dad and saw him race in Melbourne – it was great, and now I’m looking forward to getting out of the pits for the first time and getting my own experience of driving Formula 1 in Australia.

Q: Your dad has the lap record of 1:24.125 in Albert Park in 2004. At the start of the weekend the pavement on the street circuit is quite slippery, Albert Park needs a car with a stable front end. What do you expect from VF-22 on the Australian stage?
Mick Schumacher: We have a competitive car that we can fight with rivals. The Albert Park track is like most adaptable courses, there are cars all year round.

My dad owns the Ferrari lap record in 2004 – I had the chance to try this car – it’s amazing! Now that we have similar cars, with a high front wing, we seem to be back in the past. It will be interesting! Obviously a lot has changed since 2004, but it will be great to fly the VF-22.

Q: The time difference between Europe and Melbourne is nine hours. Do you have your own secret to rapid acclimation? What advice would you give fans?
Mick Schumacher: Acclimation is very important. This race and Australia in general is a great place to travel. I managed to arrive early and spend some time here.

Q: This weekend Haas F1 is holding the 125th Grand Prix. You have spent 23 races on the team. What moments do you remember? What is special about this team?
Mick Schumacher: For me the highlight last year was the weekend in Austria, when we all went cycling, having a barbecue, playing football and just having a good time together. Everyone on this team is friendly and open to communication. This is not just a working relationship, but something very special – something that I will remember for a long time to come.
