Alex Albon: I had one of my best races

Alex Albon finished tenth at Spa, earning points for the Williams for the third time of the season. His teammate Nicholas Latifi collided with Valtteri Bottas on lap two, falling one lap behind the winner and closing the finish protocol.

Alex Albon (10th): “I had one of the toughest races of my career, but also one of my best. Today we did everything we could – it’s nice to know that.

Even on the way from the pits to the starting grid, it became clear that the rubber degradation would be very strong, and the higher track temperature than on the previous days of the weekend only increased tire wear. In the final stretch I even thought of doing a third pit stop, but I managed to control Lance Stroll, so it came down to not making a mistake.

The team had a good weekend from Friday practice and got the most out of the car, focusing on speed on the straights and avoiding mistakes. We experimented, squeezed everything out of the tires and maximized the potential in the race, so I’m happy.

The team had a great weekend and proved that even if you don’t have the fastest car, you can earn a point or two if you do it right.”

Nicholas Latific (18th): “In the sixth corner I went further than necessary off the track – there was a lot of gravel left from the youth series and I lost control of the car. The feeling was similar to driving slicks on a wet track. I thought I would go straight on the gravel and slowly return to the tarmac, but the car spun around the track, which led to contact with Valtteri.

As a result, my race was ruined – one set of tires was damaged, so it was impossible to race with two pit stops. I want to forget this race as soon as possible, but we will try to get back to Zandvoort.”
