In the “Scuderia” they wanted the Monegasque on new tires to try to set the fastest lap of the race, but after the pit stop Leclerc let Alonso take the lead. On the final lap, Charles overtook Fernando, but failed to set the fastest lap, and for speeding in the pit lane during the final pit stop, the Ferrari driver received a five-second penalty and found himself behind Fernando Alonso in the final protocol.
