In 2014, the FIA introduced a points system for riders who became involved in incidents or violations of the rules. If a pilot scores 12 points in 12 months, he will be taken out of the race, but this has not happened yet. Penalties expire 12 months after accrual.
At the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, three riders received penalty points – Alex Albon for the incident with Lance Stroll at the end of the race, Guanyu Zhou for overtaking the track and Daniel Ricciardo for blocking Ocon in qualifying.

From 2022, a Formula 1 driver can receive a maximum of five warnings per season – the fifth will be penalized with the loss of ten places at the start of the race, if four of them “race” – received for violation of the driver’s rules, and one may not race.
