Glock: The results of the race at the Spa determine the fate of the championship

Red Bull Racing confirmed their clear superiority over their rivals, having won the winning double in Belgium, with Max Verstappen finishing almost 18 seconds ahead of his partner Sergio Perez. In turn, Carlos Sainz, the best of the representatives of other teams, lost more than nine seconds to the Mexican.

Charles Leclerc took only 6th place and after a not very successful race the Scuderia is already 118 points behind the leaders of the Constructors’ Championship, which is extremely difficult to win back given the speed advantage of Red Bull and Italian team leader Mattia Binotto this.

However, from the point of view of mathematics, the probability of this is still different from zero.

“Red Bull Racing has shown everyone its superiority. Rivals will have to think seriously about what they can do, and this is especially true for Ferrari as the closest pursuers, – said Timo Glock, a former Formula 1 driver, who now works with Sky Deutschland as an expert. – All teams see how fast the leaders of the championship are progressing, and Max Verstappen actually performs in his own competition.

He shows great results. But I’m not saying Ferrari has no chance of winning back, and it’s time for them to say goodbye to hope, but what happened in Belgium will largely determine the fate of the championship.

Of course there are still a lot of races ahead of us, but the advantage that Red Bull Racing has gained will not disappear anywhere. With such a reserve of points, this team can easily steer the further course of the championship, because Ferrari is no longer one step behind, but two whole.

During the race at the Spa, the Scuderia could hardly have done better. The problem with Leclair having to go into the pits after a few laps was because the video of someone’s visor got into his car. After this unplanned pit stop, Charles had to start all over again.

In any case, Red Bull’s backlog was so great that Ferrari could use any tactic – it couldn’t have had much impact. It was almost impossible to beat Max on the Belgian circuit. And Ferrari should try to understand what was the reason for their lack of speed.”
