German automaker Audi will join Formula 1 in 2026 as a powertrain supplier, the official Race Royal website informs.
This became possible after the championship changed to the new technical regulations. From 2026, the powertrains will retain the current V6 internal combustion engine architecture, but will benefit from increased electric power and 100% green fuel. It should be noted that the last two factors have become essential for Audi when deciding to join Formula 1.
The German manufacturer also said that by the end of 2022 it will announce the team it will work with in Formula 1.
For the moment, the guardians of Formula 1 are Mercedes, Ferrari, Renault and Honda (who will leave the championship in 2022).
